Area:
Newnes Plateau
Maps:
Ben Bullen / Mount Morgan

Good winter canyon as it is classified as dry and we shouldn't get wet above our knees. Tiger Snake Canyon is a narrow, twisting tributary of Deanes Creek in the South Wolgan area. Abseiling experience is required and there is at least one climb down of 5 metres and 3-5 abseils with longest being 25 metres.. The canyon consists of two constrictions with the lower part being deep, dark and spectacular. As the canyon is out at Newnes Plateau it will be a relatively early start to the day.

Area:
Lower North Shore
Maps:

If anyone wants to get some abseiling training then I am planning to have a session to teach people the basics. Plan is to use one of the parks on the lower North Shore that has some small to medium cliffs which I have used previously to teach the fundamentals of abseiling. It will also be good opportunity for those Spanners that perhaps have not abseiled for a few years and just want to freshen up their skills. Span loan gear is available - so harness, figure-8, carabiner, helmet and we will use Span ropes. As with all Span activities, participants will have to sign the standard Span Risk Waiver form. Spots will be limited and plan is to run the session for 2 or 3 hours depending on numbers and experience of people signing up. I will run another session in November as well if people can't make this day.

Paddle the 111km race or come and help on a checkpoint. Feed hundreds of paddlers from midnight to dawn. An even better atmosphere for volunteers than the Sydney Olympics. I think it is a full moon this year. General information at http://www.canoeclassic.asn.au, contact me to help on the checkpoint.

Leader:
Sue

Area:
Glenbrook
Maps:
Penrith 1: 25000

Jack Evans was a labourer who worked on Warragamba Dam. He must?ve also been adventurous and as agile as mountain goat around Glenbrook.

So, we?ll walk down the fairly well groomed Jack Evans track to Erskine Creek. Then there?s a short walk along the creek followed by an almost vertical scramble up about 200m (many contours) of sand stone cliff to the barely visible / can we find it continuation of the Jack Evans track. If we?re successful this may lead us to Erskine Knoll Rd (fire trail) and onwards to a possible lookout that is marked on the map. Party limit applies. Trip is exploratory. Must be okay with exposure and climbing up and down cliff lines. Map - Penrith 1:25 000
