Duration:
10 days

Area:
Tasmania: Cathedral Mountain Lake St Clair Reserve
Maps:

Hi Spanners I am putting together an extended walk in the Tasmanian High Country in Jan 2019. Approx 14 days from approx 5th Jan It is going to be amazing. 8 days (approx) Cathedral Mountain, then Up the Du Cane Range starting with Castle Crag, then out via the Labyrinth track to Lake St Clair. Followed by 3 days doing the Frenchman's Cap walk (probably) Lots of scrub, boulder fields, amazing views, strong chance of crazy weather - sun rain snow hail cloud, cold hot etc. It is going to be hard (but fun) so this is not for the faint hearted but experienced alpine overnight pack walkers. .

To come along you must have done at least 4 nights off track overnight walking experience or a longer walk (pref in Tasmania ) and have all the right gear.

We are going to be driven to track start and pay for accommodation etc, so there will be related costs.

A nice little canyon with 2 or 3 abseils and a short climb-down. Longest abseil is no more than 15m. Canyon ends at the remains of a long abandoned coal mine, abseiling knowledge is required. It is a wet canyon although you aren't in the water for too long so wetsuit is optional and you can probably get away with just wearing thermals and a spray jacket. Some beginners welcome with some abseiling or canyon experience. As with all Span activities you will be required to sign the Span Acknowledgment of Risk Form, a copy of which can be found on the Span website.
